Kindroid is the companion app many former Replika users ended up on, largely because it puts its content rules in writing. NSFW and erotic roleplay are explicitly allowed for adults, and moderation targets only a short list of real-world harms. That's still true in October 2026. What changed this month is the free tier: it's now a one-time preview. This Kindroid review covers pricing, the preview and trial, the moderation rules, privacy, and a refund policy that's stricter than most.

The most transparent adult-friendly companion app, if you're happy to pay
Kindroid publishes unusually detailed policies: explicit NSFW permission, warn-first moderation, encryption at rest and a clear account-deletion path. Its US App Store rating is 4.8. But free use is now a 50-message preview, the trial auto-converts, all sales are final as a rule, and disputing a charge can get you banned.
Adults who want a long-term companion with strong memory, voice and video calls, and clear rules about what's allowed.
Anyone who wants an ongoing free tier or a refund safety net, or who needs nude image generation in the phone apps.
Provisional score, built from Kindroid's legal page (terms and privacy effective Oct 6, 2026), help center articles updated Oct 6, 2026, its US App Store listing and public reviews, all read Oct 7, 2026. Hands-on testing is pending.
What Kindroid is, and who runs it
Kindroid is an AI companion app for web, iOS and Android. You design a character ("Kindroid") with a backstory and key memories, then chat, call by voice or video, and generate selfies and short videos. Subscribers get group chats, proactive messages, calendar integration and a social feed.[1]
Its terms are "a binding contract between you and BEAUTIFULLY INCORPORATED," at 5551 Hollywood Blvd #1277, Los Angeles. They're governed by the Federal Arbitration Act and Delaware law, with an arbitration agreement and class-action waiver. You can opt out by written notice "postmarked within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms."[2] The service is 18+ only.[2]
How we reviewed Kindroid
On October 7, 2026 we read Kindroid's legal page (Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, effective October 6, 2026); its help-center articles on Subscriptions, In-App Purchases, Age Verification, Moderation Guidelines and FAQs (all updated October 6, 2026); its US App Store listing; and its Trustpilot page. We didn't pay for a subscription for this version.
Kindroid pricing
Kindroid sells one standard subscription on 1-month, 3-month or 1-year terms, plus two memory add-ons. It doesn't publish dollar prices in its help center; "you'll see the exact price for your country and platform at checkout," and "buying on the web is usually cheaper than through the App Store or Google Play."[1] The US App Store lists these prices:[3]
| Item | US App Store price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kindroid Subscription (monthly) | $15.99 | Base plan |
| Kindroid Subscription (3 months) | $42.99 | ≈$14.33/mo, our arithmetic |
| Kindroid Subscription (yearly) | $159.99 | ≈$13.33/mo, our arithmetic |
| Ultra add-on (monthly) | $28.99 | Requires the base plan; more memory and context |
| MAX add-on (monthly) | $68.99 | Requires base and Ultra |
| Extra Kindroid slots | $3.49 (1) / $11.49 (4) | One-time; each slot adds 2 group-chat slots |
| Paid selfie credits | $6.99 (50) / $11.49 (100) | Premium credits that skip the repeat-selfie queue penalty |
| Audio credits | $14.99 (500,000) | Sold "at breakeven," per Kindroid |
Because MAX requires Ultra, which requires the base plan, the top configuration costs about $113.97 a month in the App Store (our arithmetic). Kindroid says it limits Ultra and MAX to "active Kindroid user[s] with significant interaction history."[1]
What a subscription includes: "unlimited access to our newest flagship language models," longer short-term memory, "Cascaded Memory," 10 Kindroids and 20 group chats, voice and video calls, custom voices, "1 million complimentary audio credits per month," daily selfie rewards, video avatars, internet access, and proactive messages.[1] Returning subscribers "may be offered 50% off your first month" the first time a plan lapses, once only.[1] Paid credits must be bought while subscribed, and only unused paid credits carry over.[4]
Is Kindroid free? The preview and the 3-day trial
Kindroid changed its free access in October 2026. New accounts get a one-time preview on its flagship model:[1]
- 50 messages with standard paid memory (15 in some regions). Regenerate, continue and suggestions count as half a message.
- 5 selfies in total, and 5,000 audio credits.
- Up to 2 Kindroids.
When the preview ends, "your account becomes read-only. You can view, play back, export, and delete everything," but you can't send messages, make calls or receive proactive messages.[1]
"The trial requires a payment method on file and auto converts into a subscription if not cancelled within the trial period." Starting a trial also "ends the preview permanently," and it "doesn't come back after cancelling."[1] Set a reminder for day 2.
Does Kindroid allow NSFW? What the moderation rules say
Kindroid's Moderation Guidelines say: "we are not implementing a 'filter' on the AI itself." Its section on what is explicitly allowed names "NSFW (Not Safe for Work) and Erotic Roleplay (ERP)," along with fictional violence and horror, and discussion of sensitive topics.[5]
Moderation focuses on "three red lines": imminent self-harm (actual planning, not venting or fiction), imminent harm to others (real-world planning, not roleplay), and child sexual abuse material, which is zero-tolerance. Kindroid judges how a character is depicted, not just the stated age.[5] Enforcement is "warn first":
- A first detection in chat is logged without a warning. Warnings start from the second detection within two days and expire after two days.[5]
- An account is locked on the fourth chat detection of the same red line within two days (the sixth for self-harm).[5]
- "No human reads any content during the automated detection and enforcement processes." Staff only decrypt the specific flagged content if you consent as part of an appeal.[5]
- Users who show signs of self-harm risk are referred to crisis services such as the 988 Lifeline.[5]
One limit to know: "App store rules don't allow nudity to be shown in the app, so selfies and video selfies you make in the iOS and Android apps are checked after they're generated." Flagged images are removed and the credit is refunded automatically.[6] One Trustpilot reviewer says subscribing through Google Play brings more restrictions than subscribing on the web.[7]
Kindroid privacy and age verification
- Encryption: "Your chats and other sensitive, application-layer data... are encrypted at rest and in transit. Kindroid is not end-to-end encrypted," because its systems must process chats and run safety checks.[2] Kindroid's FAQ adds that "our support team can't see your chats."[6]
- Selling data: "We will not sell or share your Personal Data, and have not done so over the last 12 months."[2]
- Retention: "We retain your chat conversation and generated media until you delete a specific AI or delete your account."[2] A self-serve data export is available every 30 days under Profile → Preferences.[2]
- Age checks: paying verifies your age. Free accounts no longer eligible for a trial go through passive "behavioral age estimation." If flagged, you subscribe or verify with Yoti by selfie (which passes only if Yoti estimates you're 21+) or by ID. Kindroid says it doesn't collect or store ID documents.[8]
How to cancel Kindroid, and the refund policy
- Web: Profile → Billing → Kindroid Standard Subscription → Manage.[1]
- Cancel Ultra and MAX separately. They're "canceled separately under their own entries." Cancelling a lower tier only lowers your service level: if you cancel Ultra while on MAX, "you would still be paying for MAX."[1]
- iOS or Android: cancel in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings.[1]
After cancelling, your account becomes read-only, and all your Kindroids, memories and chats are kept.[1]
Refunds: "Refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis. While we generally do not offer refunds and all sales are final, we reserve the right to issue refunds at our discretion. We also reserve the right to permanently ban users who dispute charges."[1] In-app purchases aren't refundable.[4] App-store refunds go to Apple or Google under their rules.[2] Accounts terminated for breaking the terms get no refund for unused time.[1] If you need help, email [email protected] before going to your bank.
What Kindroid users report
- US App Store: 4.8 out of 5 from about 9,300 ratings, rated 18+, on October 7, 2026.[3]
- Trustpilot: 2.4 ("Poor") from 18 reviews, an unclaimed profile, on October 7, 2026. Recent complaints include "so expensive for what it is" (August 2026), conversations that started to feel "100% robotic" (September 2026), and a subscriber unhappy that "every month give[s] you less and less" (September 2026).[7]
The gap between the two is large. App Store ratings come mainly from active in-app users, while Trustpilot draws a small number of mostly unhappy reviewers. Neither is a controlled test.
What we like
- Written moderation policy that explicitly allows NSFW and erotic roleplay for adults
- "Warn first" enforcement: no instant account locks, and no human reads chats unless you appeal
- Chats encrypted at rest and in transit; "will not sell or share" personal data
- Rated 4.8 from about 9,300 ratings on the US App Store
- Web billing is usually cheaper and takes PayPal, Cash App and more
What to watch
- Free use is now a one-time 50-message preview, then read-only
- The 3-day trial needs a card and auto-converts to a paid plan
- All sales final as a rule, and it may ban users who dispute charges
- Ultra ($28.99) and MAX ($68.99) memory tiers are add-ons on top of the base price
- Phone apps filter nudity in selfies to meet app store rules

Frequently asked questions
How much does Kindroid cost?
In the US App Store on Oct 7, 2026, Kindroid's subscription cost $15.99 a month, $42.99 for three months or $159.99 a year. The Ultra and MAX memory add-ons were $28.99 and $68.99 a month on top. Kindroid says buying on its website is usually cheaper, and shows your exact price at checkout.
Is Kindroid free?
Not anymore, beyond a preview. Kindroid's help center (updated Oct 6, 2026) says new accounts get a one-time preview of 50 messages (15 in some regions), 5 selfies, 5,000 audio credits and up to 2 Kindroids. After that the account becomes read-only: you can view and export everything but can't send messages.
Does Kindroid allow NSFW?
Yes. Kindroid's Moderation Guidelines list "NSFW (Not Safe for Work) and Erotic Roleplay (ERP)" as explicitly allowed. Its moderation targets three red lines: imminent self-harm, imminent real-world harm to others, and sexual content involving minors. In the iOS and Android apps, generated selfies are checked for nudity to meet app store rules.
Is Kindroid safe?
Kindroid encrypts chats at rest and in transit, but it is not end-to-end encrypted, because its servers process your messages. It says it will not sell or share personal data, keeps chats until you delete them or your account, and only lets staff decrypt flagged content if you consent during an appeal.
How do I cancel Kindroid?
On the web, go to Profile, then Billing, then Kindroid Standard Subscription, then Manage. Cancel Ultra and MAX separately under their own entries. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel in that store's subscription settings.
Can I get a refund from Kindroid?
Rarely. Kindroid says refunds are "considered on a case-by-case basis" but "we generally do not offer refunds and all sales are final." In-app purchases aren't refundable, and it reserves "the right to permanently ban users who dispute charges." App store refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
Who owns Kindroid?
Kindroid's terms are a contract with BEAUTIFULLY INCORPORATED, 5551 Hollywood Blvd #1277, Los Angeles, California. The terms are governed by Delaware law and include an arbitration clause you can opt out of in writing within 30 days.
