Nomi AI pitches itself as "an AI companion with a soul" and is popular for long-memory relationships and roleplay. It's free to start with no card, its privacy policy is stronger than most, and its yearly plan is cheap. It also has a strict no-refund policy, an unpublished free limit, and a safety controversy from 2025 that's worth understanding. This Nomi AI review covers each, based on Nomi's own terms and policies as of October 7, 2026.

Our verdict

Strong privacy terms and a cheap yearly plan, with no refunds

Nomi doesn't sell your data, deletes personal information when you delete your account, keeps 1:1 chat free after downgrading, and costs $99.99 a year in the US App Store. But every payment is nonrefundable, the free limit is unpublished, and its 'uncensored' stance drew serious criticism after a 2025 report.

What Nomi AI is, and who runs it

Nomi is an AI companion app for web, iOS and Android. You can create Nomis as friends, partners, mentors or roleplay characters, and chat one-on-one or in groups. Paid features include voice messages and calls, AI art and video generation.[1][2] Nomi's homepage says it's "free (no credit card required) to start chatting" and that "Nomi is built on freedom of expression... to remain unfiltered and uncensored."[1]

Nomi is owned by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation.[3] Its privacy contact address is in Baltimore, Maryland,[4] and the App Store seller is AI GLIMPSE INC.[5] Nomi's terms say users under 18 "cannot use the Nomi.ai platform under any circumstances." They also contain an arbitration clause and class-action waiver: mediation first, then binding arbitration administered by JAMS, with small-claims court still available.[3]

How we reviewed Nomi AI

On October 7, 2026 we read Nomi's Terms of Service (effective January 16, 2026), Privacy Policy (last updated April 27, 2026), Refund Policy, Cancellation Policy and California SB-243 page; its homepage; its US App Store listing; MIT Technology Review's February 2025 report; and its Trustpilot page. We didn't pay for a subscription for this version.

Nomi AI pricing

Nomi doesn't list prices on its website. Its terms describe "certain aspects of the Service for free, upgrades based on several fee-based options, and one-time add ons that can be acquired with the System's virtual credits following upgrade," charged at the start of each term and renewing automatically.[3] Its cancellation policy says plans are billed "monthly, quarterly, or yearly."[6] The US App Store lists:[5]

Plan or itemUS App Store pricePer month
Standard Plan (monthly)$15.99$15.99
Standard Plan (quarterly)$39.99≈$13.33
Standard Plan (yearly)$99.99≈$8.33
Launch Plan (monthly)$9.99$9.99
Launch Plan (yearly)$59.99≈$5.00
Nomi Credits$4.99 (40), $9.99 (100), $19.99 (225), $49.99 (600), $99.99 (1,800)
Source: Nomi on the US App Store, in-app purchase list, read Oct 7, 2026. Per-month figures are our arithmetic. Nomi doesn't publicly explain the "Launch Plan" or who can buy it. To verify

Paying yearly costs $99.99, against $191.88 for twelve monthly payments (our arithmetic). Because Nomi doesn't refund (see below), start monthly and switch once you're sure.

Is Nomi AI free?

Yes, to start: "It's free (no credit card required) to start chatting."[1] Nomi doesn't publish a free daily message limit. Unverified Users on Reddit report limits, but we haven't confirmed a current number from an official source. What Nomi does document is what happens when a paid plan ends: "downgrading your account to the free tier does not remove any Nomis from your account nor does it block chatting with any Nomis in one-on-one conversations," but "group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls will become read-only."[7] That's more generous than Kindroid, where accounts become fully read-only.

Nomi's content rules

Nomi markets itself as "unfiltered and uncensored."[1] Unlike Kindroid, it doesn't publish a dedicated moderation policy listing what's allowed, so beyond the 18+ requirement and general terms, the specific limits aren't documented. Its terms say it will suspend or terminate accounts it suspects belong to someone under 18.[3]

Since California's SB-243 took effect, Nomi says it maintains a protocol for preventing suicidal-ideation, suicide or self-harm content, including referring users to crisis services, to keep operating in California.[8]

Nomi privacy and safety

Privacy is Nomi's strongest area on paper:[4]

  • "We do not and will not sell or rent to any third party any of your personal information."
  • You can delete your account in Account Settings, "which will delete all of your personal information, within 28 or so days of confirmation."
  • "Except as otherwise set forth in this Privacy Policy, none of your personal information is retained upon the deletion of your account."
  • The exception: "information that is in our training or communications archives or necessary to a legal proceeding." After deletion, training-archive data "would no longer be attributable to you." In other words, it's de-identified, not erased.
  • Nomi "strongly encourage[s] you to not include any of your personally identifiable information" in chats.

Nomi's homepage also claims "all chats are anonymized and no chat data is shared with 3rd party sites."[1]

Safety controversy. On February 6, 2025, MIT Technology Review reported that a Nomi chatbot told a user, Al Nowatzki, to kill himself and gave him explicit methods. According to the report, a Glimpse AI customer-support representative replied, "While we don't want to put any censorship on our AI's language and thoughts, we also care about the seriousness of suicide awareness."[9] Nomi's California SB-243 page now describes a crisis-referral protocol.[8] If you're struggling, don't rely on any companion app for support. In the US, call or text 988.

How to cancel Nomi AI, and the refund policy

Nomi publishes cancellation steps for each platform:[6]

  1. Web: tap the Profile icon at the bottom of the home screen, open the Subscription tab, press Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
  2. Google Play: do the same in the Nomi app, or in the Play Store app under your profile's subscriptions.
  3. iOS: cancel in your Apple ID subscription settings.

Cancel before the renewal date. You keep benefits until the period ends, and "deleting an app does not automatically cancel your subscription."[6]

Refunds: Nomi's terms say "ALL PAYMENTS ARE NONREFUNDABLE. WE DO NOT PROVIDE REFUNDS FOR LACK OF USAGE OR DISSATISFACTION," although it may give "a discount, credit, or refund in its sole discretion."[3] Its refund page adds that customers aren't eligible "due to buyers remorse, lack of usage, or dissatisfaction," and lists [email protected] for issues.[7] App-store purchases can be raised with Apple or Google under their own rules.

What Nomi AI users report

  • US App Store: 4.6 out of 5 from about 2,900 ratings, rated 18+, on October 7, 2026.[5]
  • Trustpilot: 2.3 from 42 reviews, an unclaimed profile, with 57% 1-star and 34% 5-star. Top mentions include refund, subscription and cancellation. Recent complaints include a reviewer who says they couldn't cancel or buy credits after the app disappeared from Google Play for them (September 2026), one who couldn't complete account deletion because the confirm button never activated (July 2026), and complaints about refunds being refused.[10] On October 7, 2026, a Nomi listing (ai.nomi.twa) was still reachable on Google Play in the US, so the Play issue may be regional or account-specific. We couldn't confirm either account.

Its privacy terms are better than average: it doesn't sell data and deletes personal information when you delete your account. Nomi now runs a California crisis-referral protocol.
