Every app in this category says "free" somewhere on the landing page. In Candy AI's case the free part is a handshake, not a relationship: a few messages, then a paywall. That's not a scandal, and plenty of apps work the same way. But if you searched is Candy AI free, you deserve the exact number, and the cheapest way past it.
No, not in any meaningful way. Candy AI's terms say free users "may generally send a maximum of 5 messages to AI Characters." Anything more needs Premium, which costs $47.88 a year (shown as $3.99/month) at the cheapest, or $13.99 a month after a $9.99 first month. Even Premium meters images, video and voice with tokens.

What you get free vs. with Premium
Candy AI's terms put the free limit in one sentence: free users can "generally send a maximum of 5 messages," and "further use requires a subscription."[1] The word "generally" suggests the cap may vary by promotion or region, so treat five as the normal ceiling, not a guarantee.

The subscriptions page lists Premium's benefits as: create your own AI girlfriend(s), generate 18+ videos and images, a "Full Live Action Experience," unlimited text messages and 100 tokens per month.[2]
We haven't yet logged exactly what a brand-new free account can see and do: browsing characters, previews, and whether the five messages are per character or in total. We'll add screenshots after testing rather than guess.
Does Candy AI have a free trial?
We didn't find one. The subscriptions page we read on October 7, 2026 showed no free trial, just paid billing terms.[2] The closest offer is the monthly plan's first month at $9.99, which then renews at $13.99 a month.
Treat that first month as a paid trial with a short exit. Candy AI only allows refunds within 24 hours of payment, only for card payments, and only if you've used 20 tokens or fewer.[1] EU and UK residents get a 14-day withdrawal right on the first purchase, minus a prorated amount for what they've used.[1]
The cheapest way to pay for Candy AI
Candy AI sells the same Premium plan on five billing terms. What you pay over a year ranges from $47.88 to $291.20, for exactly the same features:

If you'll use Candy AI for more than three months, the annual plan is cheaper than paying monthly. If you're not sure you'll last a month, the honest answer is the $9.99 first month, with a calendar reminder to cancel before it renews at $13.99.
Everything renews automatically. You can cancel at any time under My Profile → Settings → Unsubscribe, and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.[3] Charges appear on your statement as "EverAI", the Malta company that runs Candy AI.[2]
The cost after you pay: tokens
"Unlimited" on Candy AI means unlimited text. Images, video, voice and private content packs use tokens. Premium includes 100 a month, and the help center confirms that regular chatting doesn't use them.[4] When they run out, you're prompted to buy more.[4]
- Annual subscribers don't get a lump sum. They receive 100 tokens each month on their sign-up date.[5]
- Tokens may not survive cancellation. The terms say leftover tokens expire when your paid period ends.[1] A help article updated Aug 25, 2026 says cancelling does not delete them.[14] Until Candy fixes the conflict, spend them before the period ends.
- Token-pack prices aren't public. They're shown inside the logged-in app. Unverified We'll publish them after a test purchase.
This is the source of many complaints. On PissedConsumer, one reviewer says they bought a $47 plan and then couldn't watch Candy's short videos without tokens, and another says a new annual plan asked for another payment after three episodes.[6] Neither is a hidden fee in the legal sense, since the terms disclose it. But "Premium" doesn't mean "everything included."
Unlimited chat, metered everything else. Budget for the meter.
"Candy AI free premium," mod APKs and free accounts
Searches like "candy ai mod apk," "candy ai free premium" and "free candy ai account" get real volume. We won't link to any of them, for practical reasons:
- They break the terms. Candy AI's terms forbid interfering with or circumventing its security features or usage limits, and let it terminate accounts that do.[1]
- Shared accounts are banned too. Accounts are non-transferable and can't be sold, lent or shared, free or paid.[1]
- Unofficial APKs are a malware risk. An app that promises "unlocked premium" for an online service has to get around the server somehow. Often it doesn't, and the APK is the product.
If cost is the issue, the annual plan or a genuinely free competitor will serve you better than a stranger's APK.
Free Candy AI alternatives worth trying
No major AI companion app is fully free, but some let you go further before paying. Here's what each publishes as of October 2026:

Nomi is the easiest no-card start of the group. OurDream AI is the most generous with in-app currency once you pay: 1,000 dreamcoins a month versus Candy AI's 100 tokens, though the two currencies aren't priced the same way. Is Candy AI worth paying for?
It can be, on one condition: you pay yearly and you mostly want to chat. At $47.88 a year, unlimited text with a custom companion costs less than half of the cheapest yearly plan among the alternatives we checked (Nomi, at $99.99 on the App Store). That's a genuinely low price, and Candy AI publishes it plainly, along with the "EverAI" billing name.[2]
It's much harder to justify in two cases. The first is if you want images, video and voice every day, because 100 tokens a month won't stretch far and top-up prices aren't public. The second is if you're likely to change your mind, because the refund window closes 24 hours after payment.[1] In either case, compare it with an app that includes more credits or lets you start without a card first.

How to test Candy AI without regret
- Use the five free messages first to see whether the chat style suits you.
- If you pay, decide between two options only: the $9.99 first month as a test, or the $47.88 year if you're sure. Skip weekly and two-week billing.
- Save the receipt and note the time. The refund window is 24 hours from payment.
- Don't spend more than 20 tokens until you've decided to keep it. Past that, a subscription refund is denied.
- Set a reminder two days before renewal, and look for "EverAI" on your statement.
