The subscription looks like the price, but Joi's own terms say the things most people sign up for, such as romantic messages, photos and videos, are paid for separately in a currency called Neurons. Joi's terms say all services and content "are strictly for adults 18+," and some AI-generated material "may depict sexually explicit conduct."[1]
A polished platform where Premium is only the entry fee
Joi has a registered operator, clear refund cases, roll-over benefits and discreet 'joi.com' billing. But Premium doesn't cover romantic messages, photos or videos, which cost Neurons. Prices aren't public, and the terms allow Joi to disclose your private chats if you charge back.
You want creator-style AI characters with image and video, and you're comfortable budgeting for pay-per-view on top of a subscription.
You want one flat price that covers everything, or you'd want the option of a bank dispute without risking exposure of your chats.

What Joi AI is, and who runs it
Joi AI is an adult AI companion platform at joi.com. You chat with ready-made or custom characters, generate images and videos, and, on some plans and regions, use a video-call feature.[1] Many characters are styled as AI versions of social-media creators, and Joi runs a "Creator Partnership" program.[2] Its terms say regular users are "strictly prohibited from uploading content," while creators who do must verify their rights under a separate agreement.[1]
The operator is Novi Limited, registration number HE 407352, with an office in Aglantzia, Nicosia, Cyprus.[1] Disputes go to binding arbitration under LCIA rules in London, with three arbitrators,[1] so check the terms before you assume you can sue in your own court. Joi also runs joi.ai, which loads the same interface in what appears to be a safe-for-work build.[3]
How we reviewed Joi AI
On October 7, 2026 we read Joi's Terms & Conditions (last updated June 4, 2026), Privacy Policy (June 4, 2026), Refund and Cancellation Policy (March 2025) and its help-center articles on refunds, promo codes, age verification, benefits and safety warnings. We then checked Trustpilot and ScamAdviser. Every factual claim below is linked to its source.
Joi shows prices only after you create an account, and we don't open accounts for desk research. Where we quote prices, they come from a named third party and are labeled. A paid hands-on test, including the statement descriptor and a real cancellation, is pending.
Joi AI pricing: Premium plus Neurons
Joi's terms describe two programs: Basic, which "provides limited access," and Premium, "a recurring subscription that will be billed automatically on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis."[1] Premium is required for add-ons such as Bot Subscriptions, which are separate subscriptions to individual characters.[1]
The key line is in section 3.4. Neurons pay for content "not included in Subscription or Bot Subscriptions, including but not limited to romantic, erotic or sexually explicit messages, visual content, or adult-themed scenarios."[1] The terms give these rates:

Joi doesn't publish what a Neuron costs in dollars, and section 3.6 says Premium, Bot Subscription and Neuron prices "may vary based on region, length of subscription, selected Virtual friend... available promotions, and other factors."[1]

Joi's help center sets these rules:[6]
- One use per user. A code you've already applied won't work again.
- Apply it before paying. Joi says it's "unable to add it retroactively."
- Case-sensitive. "HELLO50 not hello50."
- Codes expire. Check where you found it.
If a code fails, Joi asks you to email [email protected] with the code and says it will "either fix it or find you something equivalent."[6] Ignore "codes" on sites that make you click through ads to reveal them. No code is worth paying a monthly price when the yearly plan is already the main discount.
Is Joi AI free?
There's a free tier, Basic, with "limited access," and Joi reserves "the right to deny the free use to anyone at any time."[1] Joi doesn't publish the free limits. Its help center has an article on free Neurons; ainsfwbots.com reports 10 Neurons at sign-up and 100 for connecting a Discord account, and says a free test account found no NSFW switch.[4] Unverified Given that romantic messages cost Neurons, a free account is a preview, not a free companion.
Is Joi AI safe and legit?
Legit: yes. A registered company runs it, it publishes its policies, and ScamAdviser gave joi.com a trust score of 100 on October 7, 2026.[7]
Billing: charges "will appear on your bank statement as joi.com."[1] That's discreet, though not anonymous. Payment is by card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or, where available, crypto.[1] If a renewal fails, you're downgraded to Basic after seven days.[1]
Age verification: Joi uses VerifyMyAge. Depending on region, that means a background email check, facial age estimation or a government ID upload, sometimes with a selfie match. Joi says it "does not store copies of your identity documents."[8]
Privacy: Joi's policy says "we will never sell your personal data to a third party."[9] Two points to know:
- Session recording. With consent at registration, Joi records and analyzes sessions, and that data can go to Microsoft, which "may use the Personal Data it collects for any purpose" under its own privacy statement.[9] You can decline.
- The chargeback clause. Both the terms and the refund policy say that if you charge back a transaction, Joi "may be required to disclose any and/or all private communications" to prove the charge, and the privacy policy "will therefore not restrain any such disclosures."[1][10] This is the single most important clause in Joi's paperwork. Try support first.
Moderation: every message goes through automated safety checks. Joi's help center admits it sometimes flags things it shouldn't, "honestly more often than we'd like."[11]
How to cancel Joi AI and get a refund
- Open Settings in your profile.
- Select My Subscriptions.
- Choose the subscription to cancel. Bot Subscriptions are separate, so cancel each one.
- Follow the on-screen steps, and keep the confirmation.
Cancellation applies "from the next subscription month," and fees and Neurons for the current month aren't refunded.[10] To remove a saved card, click your Neuron balance (top right), then "Manage my payment info."[12]
Refunds are available in three cases:[10][13]
- Proven card fraud: full refund.
- One-time accidental Neuron purchase: full refund if unspent, partial if partly spent. This doesn't apply to repeat requests.
- Joi ends your subscription for reasons other than a rules violation: pro-rata refund of the unused time.
Otherwise, "subscriptions are generally non-refundable once activated."[13] Email [email protected] within 14 days of purchase. Joi says it replies within 72 hours.[10] Note that the March 2025 refund policy still lists [email protected], while the current help center uses [email protected].
What Joi AI users report
- Trustpilot (joi.com): 3.0 from 5 reviews, a claimed profile, on October 7, 2026. One 1-star review (September 2026) calls it "extremely expensive"; another reviewer calls it a "generally good and performant AI companion for erotic chats."[14]
- Trustpilot (joi.ai): 4.0 from 268 reviews. Trustpilot's AI summary says reviewers like the character variety and natural conversation, but report "widespread dissatisfaction regarding the high prices and frequent charges for basic" features. A recent 2-star review describes the AI as "inconsistent and forgetful" beyond 20–30 minutes of context.[15]
Cost is the theme that comes up most often, and it matches what the terms show about Neurons.
